Eating Disorder Therapy for College Students in Boston

Eating Disorder & Anxiety Therapy for College Students in Boston

The college years are hard. Eating disorders make them harder.

The transition to college — leaving home, navigating dining halls, managing performance pressure, and building a new social world — is one of the highest-risk periods for eating disorders to develop or intensify. Most campus counseling centers are overwhelmed and have limited capacity for the specialized, ongoing support that eating disorder treatment requires.

Spur Counseling provides specialist eating disorder therapy specifically for college students and young adults in the Boston area. This is not a general practice that sees eating disorders occasionally — it is the focus of the work.

Who This Practice Serves

  • Current college students and graduate students at Boston-area universities (BU, Northeastern, BC, Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Emerson, Simmons, and others)
  • Young adults ages 17-30 navigating eating disorders, body image concerns, or anxiety
  • College students who have been waitlisted at their campus counseling center and need off-campus care
  • Students stepping down from a higher level of care (IOP, PHP, or residential) who need outpatient support
  • Parents of a college student who are trying to understand what is happening and how to help

Eating Disorders Treated

  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Binge eating disorder
  • ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Intake Disorder)

What to Expect

Sessions are conducted via secure telehealth, which means students can meet from their dorm, apartment, or anywhere in Massachusetts with a private internet connection. No commuting, no running between class and an appointment across town.

Miriam uses evidence-based approaches: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She coordinates closely with dietitians, psychiatrists, and other members of your care team.

Sessions are available Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm — times that work for many students between classes.

A Note for Parents

If you are a parent and you found this page, you are probably scared. Eating disorders are serious, and watching your child struggle from a distance is painful. Miriam offers parent consultation appointments — even if your child is not yet ready to engage in therapy themselves — to help you understand what is happening, how to approach your child, and what support looks like from your end. Email to get started.

Fees and Insurance

Sessions are $250 per session. Spur Counseling is an out-of-network provider. Many families with PPO insurance plans recover 40-70% of fees through out-of-network benefits using a monthly superbill. HSA and FSA funds are accepted.

If you are not sure whether your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask.
